“I am a spine surgeon who specializes in helping patients with histories of failed or ineffective surgeries on their backs. I’ve done this for more than twenty years … It is the reason I specialized in spine surgery. I have become convinced over the years that almost all failed back surgery is correctable. I follow my patients for a minimum of three years after any significant surgery. Most common reason for chronic leg pain is inadequate decompressions. Most common reason for unresolved back pain is lack of identification of the appropriate pain generator (all of them) and/or the wrong surgical procedure to correct them. Retained symptomatic posterior fixation is another easily identified and correctable condition. Chronic use of narcotics is rarely indicated or appropriate. Other remedies to attenuate symptoms are considered in situations that prove to be truly intractable. Most patients are told they are in a non-salvageable situation due to the “inadequacies” of their surgeons/physicians. I’ve seen it thousands of times. There are physicians/surgeons with “special skills” it’s just difficult to find them.”
